First Friday is Today, September 5th

Here are the Mass Readings for today:

The first Friday of each month presents an opportunity for us to participate in a beautiful devotion. Jesus asked for the faithful to specifically receive Holy Communion and complete the First Friday Devotion for nine first Fridays in a row.

From americaneedsfatima.org, Jesus asked the faithful:

  1. Receive Holy Communion on each First Friday;
  2. The nine Fridays must be consecutive;
  3. They must be made in honor and in reparation to His Sacred Heart.

If this is a new devotion for you, and you would like to complete it, I suggest putting a reminder in your planner right now for the next 9 First Fridays. It's a wonderful feeling to offer that last Friday in reparation for sins against our Lord! After you have completed the 9, it is wonderful to set this time aside with our Lord each month and continue the devotion.

First Saturday is Tomorrow, September 6th

Here are the Mass readings for tomorrow:

This devotion was given to us from Our Blessed Mother to Sister Lucia of Fatima. To complete the First Saturday devotion, you must do the following for 5 consecutive Saturdays:

  1. Receive Holy Communion in a state of grace
  2. Receive the Sacrament of Confession
  3. Pray 1 full Rosary (any mystery, all 5 decades)
  4. 15 minute meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary

When you want to start this devotion, I suggest putting a reminder in your planner or calendar for the 5 consecutive Saturdays so you do not forget. Many parishes will offer special Holy Hours, Mass and prayers specifically designed to fulfill this devotion so be sure to check nearby parish schedules. It’s a wonderful habit to get into, and after fulfilling the first 5 it is very fruitful to continue this devotion for the rest of your life!
